Video Description

With the increasing use of the term “artificial intelligence”, a concern has started to arise: What exactly is “intelligence” and why is the human mind so special? A globally recognized leader in standards development and intellectual property, Dr. Konstantinos Karachalios, highlights the unique nuances of human memory as opposed to binary machines. Dr. Konstantinos Karachalios, Managing Director of IEEE Standards Association and an influential figure in global standards development and intellectual property, has led efforts to expand IEEE's presence in strategic emerging technology fields. Under his guidance, IEEE has become a focal point for debates on crucial issues such as a trustworthy and inclusive Internet, emphasizing ethical considerations and the rights of minors. Previously, Karachalios played a key role in French-German nuclear reactor research cooperation and held significant positions at the European Patent Office, including establishing the patent academy and contributing to technical assistance for developing countries. With a Ph.D. in energy engineering and a background in mechanical engineering, he was appointed G20 Professor in 2022, contributing to the Science of Governance through the Indonesian Academy of Sciences. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
