Join me metal detecting in the shadow of Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most important and historic medieval fortresses, dominating the landscape above the ancient town of Stirling with the XP DEUS 2 Metal Detector. This land sits at the very heart of Scottish history — a place where kings, warriors, and armies once passed, fought, and changed the course of a nation. Just a short distance from here lies the battlefield of Bannockburn, where in 1314 King Robert the Bruce led the Scots to a legendary victory over the English, securing Scotland’s independence and cementing his place as one of Scotland’s greatest kings. These fields also lie close to Stirling Bridge, where in 1297 William Wallace achieved one of the most famous victories in Scottish history, defeating a much larger English army through tactics, courage, and determination. With so much history beneath the soil — from the medieval period, through the Wars of Scottish Independence, and possibly even earlier — every signal could tell a story. Coins, relics, and lost artefacts may still lie hidden beneath these fields, waiting to be uncovered after centuries in the ground. Armed with my metal detector, I’m searching for lost pieces of Scotland’s past, exploring land steeped in battles, rebellion, and legend.
