Video Description

This German military documentary film was produced in 1962 by the Army Film Studio of the National People's Army (NVA) to showcase the ceremonial procedures performed on state visits to the German Democratic Republic. The film was created in order to document the drill maneuvers utilized by the newly established "Guard Regiment No. 1" (WR-1) during state visits by foreign dignitaries and leaders upon their arrival to the GDR. It is an invaluable film which gives viewers an insight into how Prussian military tradition was preserved by the National People's Army. The band was led by drum major Gerhard Kienow, and the Guard Regiment was led by Hauptmann Stolz. The only known digital copy of this film was originally uploaded by a YouTuber named @timetravelinghistorian8341 in 2015. However that copy was a standard definition (576i) analogue tape that was likely produced sometime in the 1990s or early 2000's and heavily compressed. I was the first person in the world to digitize the original b/w 35mm film. All translations were by me.
