Note that my goal was not a restoration. I was planning to do this for over a year now but I didn't have the time to do it until now. This kind of video was also requested by some viewers and I am happy that I was able to do it now. I was working on this project for many weeks and I am very happy with the results. My lathe model is a Sieg C2 and I bought it in December 2021. Even though it has only 250W and surely it has or had some flaws most of the time I am very pleased with it's performance. I started with disassembling the lathe, but as you can see in the video I decided to only remove and disassemble the parts where it was necessary for what I wanted to accomplish. Also disassembling completely is only necessary on exposed parts and when you want to do a restoration in my opinion. Cleaning the lathe from old grease, oil and chips was very necessary even though I try to do that regularly. I also adjusted the tension on the v belt, that really pushed the performance of the lathe. Even more important than the maintenance are the updates. As you can see the apron gearbox didn't have a cover and chips get in there all the time. I wanted to make a cover for that for quite some time now but I wanted to wait so I can show it in a video. That will make work a lot easier for me in the future. Also the slide locks and the tailstock DRO are huge updates. Most of the updates are not my ideas, I have seen them on other channels for example @artisanmakes who has really cool machining videos, check it out if you like!
