Marie Fowler was tragically murdered on December 24, 2014, in Anderson County, South Carolina. She and her friend, James Dobson, offered a ride to John Villarreal, who was hitchhiking. After agreeing to drive him to the Georgia state line, Villarreal asked them to pull over, then shot both Fowler and Dobson in the head. He left them on the roadside and stole their vehicle. Fowler succumbed to her injuries later that day, while Dobson survived but suffered severe, life-altering injuries.
