These droids are different from other robots because they’re specifically designed and trained by Disney to CUTE! Which is actually a big deal for the future of robots... These BDX droids aren’t autonomous, they’re operated using this controller. I tell it WHAT to do - walk here, throw a tantrum - but I’m not telling it exactly HOW to do that. The way it moves comes from its training. Using ducklings as inspiration, the engineers created a series of animations guiding how these robots should walk, dance, jump, and more. Then, they put digital versions of the robot into a simulation, where they're rewarded for performing those movements and sticking as close as possible to the original animations. And then...
