That in turn has caused reviewers like me to ask, “is it worth the extra money?” … and for the past six years, the answer, time and again, has been yes. This is different. To be clear, I’m not saying the OnePlus 8 Pro doesn’t earn its asking price, which is $899. And we should remember that it’s not the first OnePlus to hit this threshold either: the McLaren edition of last year’s 7T Pro was priced the same. But if we ignore special edition phones and directly compare, generation to generation, what’s available here in the States … the OnePlus 8 Pro is a $230 jump from last year’s 7 Pro. That’s a lot. To some it’s evidence of OnePlus losing touch with its core values, sacrificing its status as smartphone value hero and finally "becoming the villain."
