Metal detecting the fields surrounding an old house on the National Historic Registry is a dream location. This week we were invited to do just that, help to add to the property’s growing collection of artifacts. Our host, Mike, already knew the ground had serious potential. He’s spent months detecting the grassy areas close to the house and found a huge selection of early American history, so stepping out into the surrounding farm fields should prove magical! It didn’t take long for the field to start producing. Signals came quickly, and some amazing old pieces began surfacing one after another. Old coins, early coppers, and incredible relics started piling up. Everything about the day was working out great. Then one find stopped us all in our tracks. Our first year treasure hunter Lynne, had a moment that completely flipped the script. The kind of find that reminds you how exciting this hobby can be and how the ground doesn’t care how long you’ve been doing it. This was one of those rare days where the field decides to tell a bigger story.
