The Philippine Mars was supposed to take off from Sproat Lake for the final time on December 11th, but low oil pressure in engine 2 meant they had to return shortly after takeoff. The Martin Mars is an icon on Vancouver Island, specifically in Port Alberni where the Philippine and Hawaii Mars were based for several decades during their aerial firefighting careers.
