History was made in Rome this week as a new pope was chosen to lead the Catholic Church. The Cardinals who gathered in the Sistine Chapel surprised the world by selecting the First American pope. He is Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who has taken the name Pope Leo XIV becoming the 267th pope. Pope Leo was born in Chicago and served as a missionary in Peru before being brought to Rome to work with Pope Francis at the Vatican. He had only been a cardinal for two years before being selected pope. He was given significant responsibilities by Pope Francis, including the selection of new bishops appointed by the Pope. This is an historic moment in the life of the Catholic Church. We will ask: Who is the new Pope? Why was he chosen? And what could it mean for the church and the world?
