Various of people walking through flood waters STORYLINE: The head of Myanmar’s military government has requested relief aid from foreign countries after recent deadly flash floods and landslides displaced nearly 240,000 people across the country, the state-run media reported on Saturday. Myanmar was affected by Typhoon Yagi, which also hit Vietnam, northern Thailand and Laos. The eastern and central regions of Myanmar have been facing severe flooding and landslides since Wednesday. The low-lying areas in the central regions of Mandalay and Bago, as well as eastern Shan state and the country’s capital, Naypyitaw, have been particularly badly hit. The army said Friday that at least 33 people have died across the country since Wednesday. It said 187 relief camps have been established for nearly 240,000 flood victims from 34 townships.
