Korean leader's uncle executed for treason We begin this evening with the high-profile execution of the former number 2 man in North Korea. The communist state announced early this Friday morning... that Jang Song-thaek -- uncle of leader Kim Jong-un -- has been EXECUTED... only days after he was removed from all his posts. Arirang's Hwang Ji-hye has the details. The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported early Friday... that Jang Song-thaek,... the uncle and mentor to the young North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had been executed for treason. Branding him a traitor,... the state-run news agency said Jang's execution on Thursday came right after he admitted to his crimes before a military tribunal. "Despicable, human scum Jang, who was worse than a dog, perpetrated thrice-cursed acts of treachery in betrayal of such profound trust and warmest paternal love shown by the party and the leader for him." The KCNA released photos showing Jang standing at the military court with his hands bound... and two security agents holding his arms. The report said Jang had lost his mind due to his greed for power,... believing he could overthrow the state if he could garner enough support from the military. Jang's arrogant attitude toward Kim Jong-un was also cited as a reason for his execution. "Jang dominated national projects by increasing the number of organizations and departments under his authority. This was part of his larger scheme to reach out to central organizations so that his department would become a little kingdom all his own." The once second-most-powerful man in the North was dramatically purged last week... when the 67-year-old was dragged from his seat during a government meeting. Jang's removal marks the most significant shake-up in two years under Kim Jong-un's leadership. Jang was the husband of Kim Kyong-hui, the sister of late leader Kim Jong-il,... whose fate is still unknown. Pundits say though... that it's unlikely that Kim Jong-un would harm a blood relative.
