Restoration of a WW2 vintage Tissot watch - Manual work - Radioactive ASMR - caliber 27-3

Video Description

In this video I make a restoration of a WW2 vintage watch from Tissot, its an antimagnetique mechanical watch from the beginning of 1940 with a caliber 27-3 movement. In this restoration I do a manual cleaning and polishing, everything is manually done. This watch movement has 15 jewels and with shock protection. It’s a manual hand wind movement (you wind it via the crown to give it power). This watch is non-magnetic (Antimagnetique) which can withstand electromagnetism, electromagnetism can easily make a watch useless. Tissot made the first Antimagnetique watches during the 1930s, you can read more via link down below. During the restoration when opening the Tissot watch I wear a breathing mask because these old watches had often Radium on the dial and hands for the lume. Radium is still Radioactive because the most stable isotope of Radium has a half life of 1600 years (isotope of radium is 226Ra with a half-life of 1600 years [Wikipedia]). I couldn’t see any lume glow on this watch so maybe this didn’t have Radium but I cant be sure. This vintage watch works but is full of dirt, so I don’t think it works very well and it’s hard to wind the watch via the crown. Through this restoration I saw that the jewels might be a bit to worn, the oil just sank through the jewels to fast but still I think the condition of the watch is much better now. After the restoration the Tissot watch works fine, I noticed it’s maybe 30 seconds to slow over 12 hours, fairly good for a vintage watch but I will adjust it and wore it more to check the time. ----------- In this video: -Disassembly of the watch and check for problems -Inspection of all parts if they are worn or broken via the microscope. The stem and the keyless works has some rust on them, I sanded the stem to try to remove some rust but it's deeper in the metall. I didn't sand the keyless parts. -Manual cleaning, I do this with Rodico (Bergeon), some toothpicks, peg wood. Then let all parts be in bensin and later a double bath of IPA (Isopropyl alcohol). After the IPA batch I blow all parts with air until they are totally dry. The pallet fork and balance wheel (with its spring etc) can’t be in IPA for too long (a few seconds). -Manual polishing with 2000 grit paper so you don't cut any angles of the steel of the watch. Then cloth polishing to just lay down those high spikes in the metall so the surface will be more shiny. -Change glas of the watch to a new plexi glas without a steel ring. -Inspection if all parts are clean via the microscope -Assembly and oiling all relevant parts If you like the video, I’m very happy if you subscribe (maybe put a comment?) to my channel and hit the like, more videos will come!
