Restoration of Antique Firefighter Axe - Repairing and Restoring a Classic Fireman's Tool In this restoration video, watch me restore a vintage firefighter axe with a broken edge, damaged spike, and worn handle. Follow along as I repair, restore, and enhance this old firefighting tool, complete with a custom laser engraving! About this Firefighter Axe I purchased this antique firefighter axe at an auction a few years ago for about $10. Since then, this rusty axe has patiently waited in my garage, begging for a restoration. Now it's finally time to bring this classic tool back to life! Did you know that the firefighter axe is one of the essential tools used by firefighters? There are mainly two types: the flat-head axe and the pick-head axe (with a spike), like the one I'm restoring in this video. Firefighters frequently use these axes to break through doors, windows, or even chop through walls for ventilation during or after a fire. Axe Restoration Process The restoration began by removing the old handle, which was firmly secured by two protective iron fittings. I then sandblasted the axe head at 125 PSI using aluminum oxide, effectively removing years of rust and grime. Due to extensive wear, I had to remove about ¾ inch from the damaged axe edge and reshape it with a strong, 30-degree bevel suitable for a firefighter's tough tasks. Additionally, the axe's spike had lost about 1 inch from years of heavy-duty use, so I repaired it with stick welding, adding new steel before grinding it smooth. After completing the repairs, I hardened and polished both the edge and spike. For added personality, I laser engraved a striking Native American chief skull design, measuring approximately 2x2 inches on each side of the axe head. To highlight the firefighter spirit, I engraved the handle's front iron fitting with the motto "Semper Paratus," meaning "Always Ready." Finally, I handcrafted a new handle from beautifully smoked oak wood, finished with Nordic teak oil, giving the axe a rugged yet refined appearance. I'm thrilled with how this firefighter axe restoration turned out the engravings add toughness and personality to this timeless firefighting tool. 🔔 Subscribe for more restoration videos and projects! 🎬 Watch my Nordic Double Bit Axe Restoration here 👉 https://youtu.be/fwHALgDYfH8&list=UULFsCCifMby57qV_UmrYGladQ 👈 Thank you for watching and supporting my channel!
