In the years after World War II, Britain’s Special Air Service found itself up against a new kind of enemy deep in the Malayan jungle. Communist guerrillas led by Chin Peng struck rubber plantations and tin mines, forcing London to declare a state of emergency in 1948. Facing dense rainforest, leech-infested swamps and fighters with superior local knowledge, the SAS had to rethink every rule of engagement. Lieutenant Colonel “Mad Mike” Calvert answered the call, recruiting an eclectic band of volunteers and putting them through brutal training that tested endurance, stealth and unconventional skills like tree-jump parachuting.
