Video Description

Stock Investing for Beginners | Scott Thompson | 6-9-25 Time is one of your greatest assets! The earlier someone starts investing, the better their opportunity to build wealth. Today we covered some basic definitions: Stock, Mutual Fund, ETF, Index. We talked about how to get started on your investing journey--determine how much per week or month you want to invest, open and fund an account, choose some investments, and get started. Why do people invest? A big reason people invest in stocks and other securities is for the potential to grow the value of their investments over time to help them reach their goals. Historically, investing over the long-term has helped people build wealth. Past performance is no guarantee of future results and we reviewed the history of three publicly traded companies--two that went bankrupt and one that has had tremendous success. We showed a compound interest calculator and the different between investing $150 per month, only $5.00 per day for 45 years in the market versus only 35 years. That 10 years, at a theoretical interest rate of 10%, could cost investors about one million dollars! Many brokers give you the opportunity to by partial or fractional shares. We went through and example of how you can do that in the thinkorswim paperMoney trading platform. 00:00 Intro 02:27 Definitions 05:44 Compound Interest Calculator 08:57 Open an account 11:15 Tale of 2 companies 15:15 Why people invest--December 1980 example 28:00 Fractional Shares 35:00 Homework 36:00 Wrap-up Welcome to Stock Investing 101!  Join this weekly webcast to help you begin your investing journey.  Learn about the stock market.
