Snowboarder rescued by skier in Mt. Baker form lifelong bond: 'He saved my life'

From the archives: Nearly two years ago, Francis Zuber was backcountry skiing near Mt. Baker when he slid right over Ian Steger’s snowboard in the snow and was able to save his life. Steger said he was out with a group of friends snowboarding in an area where he’d been hundreds of times when the worst happened. He fell backwards into a tree well, he couldn’t free himself and his friends couldn’t find him. Zuber was in the right place at the right time.
