SOLVED After 9-Days: Found Remains of Man Missing on Christmas Day (Fernando Ortiz)

AFTER 9-Days Missing, Fernando Ortiz HAS BEEN FOUND! Today, we traveled to West Point Lake near LaGrange, Georgia to search for missing person Fernando Ortiz, who was reported missing on Christmas Day, December 25. Fernando was last seen earlier that day, and his truck was later found empty with the engine running and his dog inside sitting near the boat ramp at Liberty Hill Park. After law enforcement and search teams spent several days searching the area with no leads, @exploringwithnug was contacted by Fernando’s family to help continue the search. After arriving on scene, we deployed our remote-controlled sonar boat along with a larger search vessel and began scanning the water surrounding the boat ramp and nearby shoreline. In under two hours, we located a suspicious anomaly on sonar. After further investigation, we tragically confirmed it was a body. Law enforcement was immediately notified, and the Troup County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with the dive team, who entered the water and recovered the body. Authorities later confirmed the remains were those of Fernando Ortiz. Our hearts go out to Fernando’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. While this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, we pray that this discovery brings answers and some measure of closure.
