In today's episode, we'll be looking back on the rock mockumentary movie "This is Spinal Tap" starring Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, and Rob Reiner. Released in 1984, This Is Spinal Tap is the groundbreaking mockumentary directed by Rob Reiner, who also appears on screen as filmmaker Marty DiBergi, chronicling the fictional British heavy metal band Spinal Tap on a disastrous American tour. The movie stars Christopher Guest as lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel, Michael McKean as lead singer and rhythm guitarist David St. Hubbins, Harry Shearer as bassist Derek Smalls, with David Kaff as keyboardist Viv Savage, and R.J. Parnell as the group’s ill-fated drummer Mick Shrimpton.
