Yes, we get beautiful flowers and roses and all the fun stuff, and we also hit this other thing called perimenopause. And ladies, it's not roses and flowers and wonderful things. And it doesn't seem like there's enough information out there, so I'm here to help you. And this isn't just for the ladies. It's for anyone who is a lady or a man or whatever you want to identify as, because you have to understand what the women in your life are going through. And you know, just kind of help them out. So today's lesson is on perimenopause. Wow, what a great topic. Something we've got to talk about. So, perimenopause is basically the women's body stops producing a hormone called estrogen. And I'm not a doctor, obviously, but estrogen is a hormone that women produce, and it's part of our reproductive system. Men, do you have estrogen? I don't know. You probably got a bit of it, but women have a lot of it. And what happens is our body's just like, "Nah, nah, just nah. Done. Done producing it. It's finished. I'm going to take a break. We're going to stop that." This usually happens with women anywhere between ages 30 to 50. So I can't tell you, "Oh, when you turn 42, you're going to begin perimenopause." Perimenopause means the time before menopause. And menopause means when you actually stop having your period, and your baby maker is down for the count. You can no longer have children. Your ovaries are just done, no kids anymore. It's the stopping of our reproductive system. Could be a good thing, but the symptoms, not good. So, we're going to have physical, and this is the thing that we have to watch out for are emotional symptoms. Let's go through the physical symptoms first. First thing you're going to notice is the changes in your period. I've also done a video, ladies, about your period in English, so you know some slang terms, how to talk about it with your doctor. But it's going to become irregular. Maybe it's going to kind of decrease. Yes. Oh, finally. Yeah. Yeah. Until it's going to stop. Hallelujah. But it isn't that fun. It isn't all beautiful. So your period's going to change. You're probably going to have less. It's not as heavy. And I'll be like, "Oh my god. Sneeze. Achoo. Oh, man. I got to change my tampon." You're going to get these wonderful things during what they call "hot flashes". You'll just be hanging out, being a normal lady, you know, doing what ladies do, and all of a sudden, it's like you're burning up. Inside usually starts in the chest, and it goes up, and all of a sudden, you can't do enough to rip off all your clothes and go and lie in the snowbank. There's no time to say, "Oh yeah, do you know what? Tuesday at 8.45, I'm going to have a hot flash." We don't know when these are coming, and they usually come at the most inconvenient times. We see this a lot in American Hollywood movies. Ladies will be giving a speech, and all of a sudden, you're just... It's really emphasized in movies like that, and it's kind of true. That's what happens. I know someone that kept a record of their hot flashes, like, "Monday, I'll hot flash at 9 o'clock", and there was no regular pattern, like it wasn't like, "Every Tuesday, I'm going to have five hot flashes between 9 a.m. and 9.35 p.m." There's no regulatory body on that. You're just... Your body's like, "You're going to be hot right now, and you're going to deal with it", and then you just go back to being normal, or you get cold, so hot flashes. Next one, "Night sweats", oh yeah. I'm lucky because I don't really sweat a lot, or maybe that's a bad thing. Night sweats are when, obviously, sweat at night... Sweat is perspiration. It's the water. Your body's releasing the water from your body, and you're sleeping, everything's great. Dreaming of chocolate and cookies, and all of a sudden, you wake up and you're just drenched in sweat. […]
