Facing the Diagnosis: Inoperable Adenocarcinoma Teona’s diagnosis came on April 1st—April Fool’s Day—but there was nothing funny about it. A second opinion confirmed the cancer was Stage III pancreatic adenocarcinoma, deemed inoperable at the time. To stand a fighting chance, her medical team opted for a bold, non-standard treatment approach: shrink the tumor with chemotherapy before attempting surgery. Chemotherapy Journey: FOLFIRINOX, Xeloda, Gemzar Abraxane Teona began a grueling six-month chemotherapy regimen with FOLFIRINOX, a platinum-based cocktail known for its intensity. She completed 12 rounds, enduring extreme side effects: Hair loss Severe fatigue Loss of appetite (as food began to taste like metal) Dangerous drops in white blood cell counts After a temporary break to recover, she continued treatment and was ultimately strong enough to undergo surgery. Surgeons were able to successfully remove the shrunken tumor—a feat few achieve with Stage III diagnoses. Post-surgery, her oncologist prescribed an additional round of oral chemotherapy using Gemzar Abraxane and Xeloda to ensure any remaining cancer cells were eliminated. Remission & Life After Cancer By November 2016, Teona Ducre was declared cancer-free—a truly remarkable outcome for someone initially diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Though weakened and fatigued, she gradually returned to work part-time to maintain her health benefits. Today, Teona continues to monitor her health closely. With part of her pancreas removed, regular checkups help manage her blood sugar levels and prevent the onset of diabetes or recurrence of cancer.
