Get ready for a cinematic journey through the stunning landscapes of Brittany, captured with breathtaking drone shots… and featuring the surprise appearance of a steam locomotive to kick things off! In the previous episode, I renovated the north side of the roof on the extension—affectionately called the barn, as it once served as an old outbuilding. 🛠️ In This Epic Episode we move on to the south roof : → 🎄 Christmas Cinematic Intro: Steam locomotive & beautiful Breton scenery. → 💼 The mysterious briefcase containing today’s partner products: LASGOO laser level and BASE CAMP protective masks. → 🌲 Replacing the old main beam: installing a massive chestnut beam built to last another 200 years. Big thanks to the David Brown 995 tractor and its driver for helping move the log! Precision cutting on-site thanks to the mobile sawmill. → Treatment of the old timber using Xylophene to protect against fungi, insects, and wood-boring pests. → 🧱 Masonry reinforcement to solidify the structure around the new beam. → 📐 Building the dormer window, inspired by plans found online. → Installing the under-roof membrane and battens. → 🤯 The Art of Slate Roofing: valleys, hips, and side cheeks… the most technical and educational part of the project! → 🧱 Final touches: ridge tiles installation and masonry work to seal the junction between the gable wall and the roof. Découpe sur place grâce à la scierie mobile. → 🧱 Maçonnerie de reprise pour solidifier toute la structure autour de la nouvelle poutre. → Traitement des vieux bois de la charpente au Xylophène, pour protéger durablement contre les champignons, insectes et xylophages. → 📐 Construction de la lucarne chien-assis, inspirée de plans trouvés en ligne. → Pose de l’écran de sous-toiture et des liteaux. → 🤯 L’Art de l’Ardoise : noue, arêtiers, joues… la partie la plus technique et la plus formatrice du chantier ! → 🧱 Finitions : pose des tuiles faîtières et maçonnerie de l’étanchéité entre le pignon et le toit. Chaque étape a demandé rigueur et précision, mais le résultat est à la hauteur : un toit solide, traditionnel et une pièce bien plus lumineuse.
