Buchenwald, one of Nazi Germany’s largest concentration camps, stood as a brutal symbol of genocide, forced labor, and human cruelty. Built in 1937 near Weimar, it imprisoned Jews, political opponents, and other persecuted groups, subjecting them to starvation, torture, medical experiments, and death. Tens of thousands perished, while survivors endured unimaginable trauma. Despite the horror, acts of resistance and solidarity emerged, culminating in a prisoner-led liberation in 1945. Buchenwald’s legacy warns humanity of the dangers of hatred, indifference, and dehumanization.
