I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that, it's genuinely bad. And I think it's more so because, compared to the rest of Taylor's work, it's like she didn't even try with this one. I've been a fan for years but I cannot ignore the lyrics that signal a capitulation to the right, excuse bad behavior of her privileged millionaire besties, and sell a tradwife fantasy that seems incongruent with the brand Taylor Swift has cultivated over the past 20 years. I want to be clear that I'm not saying it's bad to want children and a husband; it is however a dog whistle to discuss that musically for the first time in a political moment where women are actively being propagandized to give up public life and submit to their husband. We need to hold these incredibly powerful people accountable and stop pretending like they don't know what they're doing. They're not stupid and neither are we.
