On this channel you find in-depth book focussed lore videos on Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. I also look into the languages and etymology of J. R. R. Tolkien's books and Tolkien related Films & Series. Signature Content: - Lord of the Rings and Tolkien Lore - Language - Video essays My name is Chris and I like Lord of the Rings and video games. Why Philosopher's Games? The name is a Metal Gear Solid reference - to the secret organisation "The Philosophers" (the la-li-lu-le-lo). Video Description
Shadow of War is loosely tied to the books’ lore and has a lot of references, so I go through the whole game (very detailed) and explain the references and differences. This is not really a summary of SoW ‘s story, but ofc I cover the main events of the story, including the true ending and Shelob’s full memory. So this is an in-detail look from The Lord of the Rings and its Appendices, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales on Middle-earth: Shadow of War. This includes heavy spoilers for the books, Shadow of War and also Shadow of Mordor. Update: my gaming content will be on my 2nd channel: https://www.youtube.com/TPhGames (at least some LotR related gaming videos will still be posted here on the main channel though) Notes: - This is not a review or a rant, just a video and comparison, that explains the differences from the perspective of the books. I know the game is not canon. - Pronunciation I try pronounce the names correctly, but ofc I mess up sometimes. That means a lot of rolled “r” sounds. - Heavy Spoiler and Spider Warning (Spider Warning is in the video with a timestamp; skip from 10:05 min to 14:07 min) Mistakes: - in the section Necromancy and the Necromancers (36:03 min) I probably word it a bit poorly. The trick for e.g. Morgoth would not be control, but "resurrection". Morgoth can ofc control Balrogs, but it would be quite a trick for him to simply "resurrect" a dead one again like the Necromancer-Orc does in the game. Probably a Balrog as a fallen Maia can come back in some form at some point, but that would probably take millennia - if at all possible.
