The Propeller Fell off My Airplane

Last summer I fulfilled my dream of buying this homebuilt airplane and flying it halfway across the country. Unfortunately on my first major flight away from home I experienced an in flight crankshaft failure resulting in the propeller completely departing the plane in flight. I'm heartbroken to say this will be the end of my journey with this little plane. Above all I'm grateful that the situation resulted in a safe outcome. The cause of the crankshaft failure is currently unknown. Since there were no injuries or property damage, the NTSB chose not to investigate. Some theories include improper assembly of the crank hub, fatigue cracks, or a blockage of oil to the front bearing.
