Laura Wallen was a 31-year-old teacher of Social Studies at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, Maryland. She loved her job and her students. She had even been named “Teacher of the year” in 2016. The new school year was about to start, and Laura had been so excited about it. She’d even decorated her classroom for the upcoming first day. So, on September 5, 2017, it made no sense for her not to show up for the first day of school. When the school called her family and told them she hadn’t shown up for work, they knew this wasn’t like Laura, and they grew concerned. The family called local police and requested a welfare check for their daughter at her home address in Olney, MD. When the police arrived, nothing seemed out of the ordinary except that Laura and her vehicle were gone.
