Florian Gadsby is a ceramicist working with stoneware and porcelain in North London — here you'll find videos that show process, how pottery is thrown and finished and finally glazed and kiln fired. The videos here show the processes behind his work, such as the throwing and trimming of tableware and more sculptural pieces. For more regular posts, including daily photographs and videos, make sure to follow over on my Instagram: (www.instagram.com/floriangadsby). I restock my online shop around 3/4 times a year, with about 300-400 pieces a time, if you'd like to receive a newsletter about when these go live you can sign up to my newsletter on my website, (https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter). I also leave the shop page online, even though it appears as sold out, it usually sells out in a few minutes time, just to give you an idea of what's available and the price range, (https://www.floriangadsby.com/shop). If there's anything else you'd like to know, please do get in touch!

Video Description
I apologise for exposing you to that initial noise, horrible, isn’t it? It’s exactly for this reason that I grind the lids of all my pots, a task that’s done with headphones on to drown out the terrible racket, (it’s a good thing you can identify when they’re ‘ready’ by feel alone). As I work through many jars like this, the paste from one jar is scraped off and spread onto the next, and as I go, I add more paste when I feel they need it, this way the little tubs of Chemico valve lapping paste last longer, as even the rather clay saturated paste works well. Lastly, I wash all the paste away using hot soapy water. If you are using more grogged bodies this stuff can be trickier to remove, in which case I recommend using water soluble versions, they exist. I also only ever use the paste on the bare clay of the pot, it never grinds away at the glaze as otherwise it would scratch it quite terribly. It’s all worth it though, you can even save pots that had lids that absolutely didn’t fit, which is wonderful, but it perhaps does push you to create the lids of your lidded vessels in a particular way. #pottery #jar #satisfying #asmr #antiasmr #ceramics #clay
