Video Description
If your 450C dozer lost reverse or slips on a hill, this teardown shows exactly why — and how to fix it. We dig into a John Deere 450C forward/reverse transmission (reverser) a viewer hauled in. Reverse was slipping and sometimes went away on a bank. We tear it down, inspect clutch packs, find shot piston seals and cooked steels, and show the re-stack and snap-ring work. Parts were surprisingly in stock at the Deere dealer (~$500 here). No fancy tools—just a press (10-ton), puller, and a homemade 3" pipe coupling tool to compress cone washers. If you’re rebuilding a JD 450C (or similar), the stack order matters—get the book, mind the notched plates, and replace snap rings and seals.
