I’m John Kanell, a husband, dad to twins Lachlan and George, Los Angeles native, and an avid baker and cooker of all things delicious thanks to a life long education from my mother. My mom cooked every meal we had and I loved spending time with her in the kitchen watching, helping, and learning as she made everything from scratch. After finishing my degree in fine arts at UCLA I spent just over a decade teaching math and science to wonderful 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. A few years ago I decided to get back to my roots and Preppy Kitchen was born! For me the most satisfying part of making any dish is sharing it, so I started blogging to bring what I make to all of you.

Video Description
Thumbprint cookies are the original no stress ready in a snap cookie. The bright colored jam filling reminds me of Autumn leaves and Christmas ornaments. I made these with a drizzle glaze but you can use chocolate, nuts or coconut flakes just as easily. Let me know which one you prefer! I love that these cookies can be made with little ones, as long as they have extra clean hands! Some people will use a teaspoon to press the indent into the cookie but I think it's called a thumbprint cookie for a reason. The recipe for the sugar cookie base is super versatile by the way, also great for cut out cookies!
