Iroh was a bad guy So zuko’s uncle iroh is seen as this big cuddly man of wisdom, virtue and true masculine strength.. He is believed to be one of the most well written characters in not only avatar but any form of media.. He is simply beloved.. But something many seem to gloss over and forget is the fact that iroh’s story is not one of a good man doing good man things.. You see up until his son’s death Iroh was known as the dragon of the west, a war general who was incredibly well decorated as a soldier, he annihilated countless villages and homes in pursuit of the fire nation glory.. And although it is never directly mentioned, the fire nation was known to kill all who lift within these villages, meaning it’s highly likely that the sweet uncle Iroh killed not only other village warriors but also the women and children of that village.. And you see in my opinion glossing over this past and making him out to be perfect is just wrong.. Because what's truly amazing about him is the fact that this man was able to redeem himself to such an extent, because as we witnessed with Zuko, coming back from your past transgressions is not an easy thing to do. It is incredibly hard and deserves our respect. .....................................................................................
