In this tutorial, I dive into the creative world of light-painting, using long exposure photography and multiple images to shape light exactly where I want it. Working on location, I’ll show you how I capture a series of long exposures while manually painting light onto the building using a torch. Each exposure records a different aspect of the scene, allowing complete control over how the structure, textures, and atmosphere are revealed. Back in Adobe Photoshop, I’ll take you step by step through the blending process: - Combining multiple long-exposure images - Using layer masks to selectively reveal painted light - Applying different blending modes to control contrast and depth - Refining the final composite to create a cohesive and highly creative image Once the colour version is complete, I’ll take the image a step further by introducing Nik Collection 8 – Silver Efex Pro, transforming the blended result into a dramatic black-and-white image with a twist. You’ll see how contrast, structure, and tonal control can completely change the mood and storytelling of the photograph.
