The first gate my videos have to pass is showing respect to the artists they cover. This weight was especially heavy here. What I wanted to design with the long format was something that could reflect the often dense and complex thoughts Virgil had on the creative process. As an artist he was was inspired across skate culture, graffiti culture, high fashion, and music/dj'ing, and I wanted to get these references into the piece too. I hope a sense of respect for the artist comes across to the audience, and if you knew Virgil, or he meant something to you, I hope this video leaves you feeling lifted and positive about this small corner of his legacy.
