He is also asked about his advocacy for promoting good nutrition to bring down the rates of chronic disease and reduce health care costs, abortion, and whether he still holds the pro-choice views he held in the past, and Medicaid reform. White House Budget Office rescinds a freeze on federal grants and loans but says the president's Executive Order limiting money for such programs as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) is still in effect. President Donald Trump and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) react. President Trump and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) talk about the president's offer to most federal workers to take a buyout with 8 months' pay. Federal Reserve holds interest rates steady, and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is asked about President Trump saying he will "demand" lower interest rates. President Donald Trump signs his first bill into law, the Laken Riley Act, requiring detention of undocumented immigrants accused of theft-related crimes. Senate confirms Lee Zeldin as EPA Administrator, 56-42. Three Democrats joined Republicans in voting yes. Senate Judiciary Committee approves Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi in a 12-10 party line vote.
