Death cap mushroom murderer Erin Patterson will not be eligible for release until the age of 81, after a Victorian Supreme Court judge found she caused “untold suffering” and lasting anguish by murdering three people with a toxic beef Wellington. Judge Christopher Beale on Monday set Patterson a headline sentence of life behind bars, but issued her a non-parole period of 33 years after finding her restrictive confinement conditions should be “important and weighty considerations” when determining her prison term. He found Patterson showed “no pity” after she murdered her lunch guests with the deadly meal, engaged in an “elaborate cover-up” in the days after, and betrayed the trust of innocent people who “had all been good to you and your children over many years”.
