In today’s video, things got a little more intense than expected on our Tennessee homestead… 😬 What started as a productive bulldozer day quickly turned into a moment of chaos when Mark accidentally ran over a yellow jacket nest. Within seconds, he was surrounded by hundreds of angry insects! Thankfully, he’s okay, but it definitely wasn’t the kind of excitement we were expecting while working on the land. Once the dust (and the wasps 🐝) settled, we got back to tackling our long list of bulldozer projects. The main focus this week was finally backfilling our 1,200-foot city water trench — the same trench we dug back in July. It had been open for months, and today we carefully closed it up around the three water hydrants. After that, we moved on to improving our main road. We deepened the ditches on both sides so rainwater could flow downhill properly instead of washing out the gravel, widened and smoothed the road, corrected the old terrace bumps left from when this land was farmland, and removed a lot of unnecessary trees to open up the space. In just three days, the transformation was incredible. Every time we use this kind of equipment, it’s a reminder of how much faster and easier things could’ve been if we’d had it from the start. But that’s the beauty of homesteading: learning, improving, and growing with every project.
