What is a TA? How to get a Teaching Assistantship at an University?! A Teaching Assistantship is one of the most available and common grad student jobs within a University. Not to mention, student employee positions like a TA, can help fund a graduate degree! But what in the world is a TA and how do you get a TA-ship at a University? Hi Friends! You know, one of the very first jobs I got at my university was a Teaching Assistantship. I had a few classes in my undergrad that had a TA, but there weren't many, so while I kind of knew what TAs do, I didn’t quite know how to become one! While it is all based on my experiences as a graduate student at UCLA, this video provides a brief overview of what a teaching assistant is and what TAs do at a university, but it also lists out some of the ways graduate students are able to obtain this type of job. There is no “right” way to fund your PhD, and tuition, food, healthcare, and rent really start to add up fast.
