The 2 young men sprang into action and headed for Haliewa, still in their tuxedo trousers and jumped into their Curtiss P-40 Tomahawks. Despite officers telling them to step down they took off and took the fight to the Japanese. Taylor and Welch were immediately outnumbered but the 2 men showed amazing courage and strength in the battle.
