Use code THEHISTORIES at the link below to get an exclusive 60% off an annual Incogni plan: https://incogni.com/thehistories The word ‘Vandal’ today means 'a person who deliberately destroys or damages property belonging to others' - when it comes to the Germanic Vandals, whose late antique migrations took them from Southern Poland, across the Western Roman Empire and into North Africa via Spain, this description is not exactly untrue, especially given that they did indeed sack the city of Rome in 455 AD. However, the Vandals were only one of a number of Germanic tribes who moved into the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century, forced into a wholesale westward migration by the Huns. They had a colossal impact upon late antique europe, and in particular upon the decline and fall of the Roman Empire in the West, through their establishment of an independent kingdom in North Africa, a kingdom that lasted for almost a century. Therefore, today we will endeavour to learn more about this powerful and much feared Germanic people, and answer the question: Who were the Vandals?
