The purpose is call attention to not only the complexity in diagnosis but in treatment and to include those disorders that are often comorbid. Each is discussed to help you identify which may be present in yourself and others. BPD is a treatable condition, but accurate identification is critical. It is my hope that the term Complex BPD will be recognized in the future to differentiate it from the very rare type, Pure BPD. Pure BPD is present when only BPD symptoms are present. This is very rare, and is estimated to exist in 3-7% of those diagnosed with BPD. However, many times, when a clinician identifies BPD or traits, they dismiss other disorder and factors. This renders the treatment stalled or it gets completely derailed. Daniel J. Fox, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in Texas, international speaker, and a multi-award winning author.
