Video Description

Age is NOT a reason to stop taking hormones in menopause. Of course if something comes along like breast cancer or uterine cancer, then there are legitimate reasons to stop taking hormones, but age is not one of them. In this talk, I explain how we ended up with so many people, including many doctors, who think that women need to stop hormones when they reach age 60 or 10 years past menopause. And I'll explain why that is no longer the recommendation. Even the Menopause Society, which is generally a conservative professional organization, says that any woman who starts hormones can safely stay on them for life. And the data all supports the safety and benefit of doing this. In this talk, I also cover target hormone levels and thoughts on starting hormones for the first time after age 60 -- I'm a fan and I'm working to better understand the challenges so we can make it not only as safe as possible but also as beneficial as possible.
