To start things off we should probably explain what special grade means, cause in chapter 203 Kenjaku described it as having the ability to overthrow nations. This implies that a special grade sorcerer should be able to defeat a whole country, with some kind of widespread destructive power. At the same time not every special grade needs this kind of attack and one of the best examples is Principal Yaga. Years ago the higher-ups were desperate to classify Yaga as special grade, due to the fact he created Panda. Their reasoning was that Yaga had potential to create an infinite number of these things and since Panda produces his own cursed energy, an army of Panda’s wouldn’t die, even if Yaga himself was killed. In theory this puppet army could takeover a country and the higher ups were so afraid that they tried to lock Yaga away forever. To avoid life in prison Yaga pretended like he didn’t know how to make more but if he’d been honest, then he would’ve officially been special grade alongside Gojo and the others. This shows us the flaws of the special grade system, cause although Yaga is great, I don’t think anyone believes you can rely on him to take down special grade curses. Logically a special grade sorcerer should be someone who you expect to always beat a special grade curse, but under the current system, the only thing that matters is whether they can overthrow a country. Why is this the criteria? Well in chapter 210 we found out that the Jujutsu higher ups are the ones in charge of Japan, meaning anyone who can overthrow a country is a direct threat to their power. That explains why the higher ups view Yaga as special grade, it’s not because of his ability to take down curses, instead it’s because of his potential to take down them. In chapter 18 Gojo confirmed this, when he said the conservatives only care about maintaining their own power and traditions. For these reasons the definition of special grade is corrupt, cause it’s basically a tool for the higher ups to identify people they cant control. Now major spoiler warning ahead but later in the manga, these higher ups all get massacred by Gojo. Although I can’t show it cause I don’t wanna get demonetised, just know that all the people who tried to keep him locked in the prison realm, were torn to shreds by him when he got out. This paved the way for the new generation to take charge, especially now that the most conservative clans have been destroyed. If the Zenin clan does returns it’ll obviously be a lot better now that Megumi’s in charge and likewise if the Kamo clan returns, Yuji has a very strong case to takeover. As the son of the most recent clan leader and as the only active sorcerer with blood manipulation, the seeds have clearly been planted for Itadori to have the strongest claim. Similarly following Gojo’s death, the Gojo clan chose Yuta to be their new representative, so no matter how you look at it, Satoru’s students are in place to the leaders of Jujutsu Society.
