Licence Fee Resistance campaigner Mark Whitfield says the BBC's enforcement of the licence fee has become increasingly 'aggressive', with most of those prosecuted being women, many of whom have confessed to visiting enforcement officers or felt intimidated after receiving reminder letters with 'misleading' information in them. The BBC has been told to step up its efforts to enforce the licence fee since more than 3.6 million households stopped paying. The Corporation is thought to be losing up to £1.1bn a year. This week the broadcaster announced a deal to make content for YouTube in an effort to widen its appeal to younger audiences, though some fear this could one day give the BBC an argument for widening the scope of the licence fee to cover social media platforms.
