Group C was arguably the most iconic era of motor racing we've ever experienced. These 250mph+ downforce monsters got so fast and so exciting, they were effectively culled to save F1. Thanks to @collectingcars, I was lucky enough to get behind the wheel of this utterly iconic 962. And thankfully, it did not disappoint... ABOUT THIS CAR •⁠ A remarkable survivor from the Group C era, this is one of the final Porsche 962s built by the factory, and one of only three customer cars delivered to the celebrated Brun Motorsport team for the 1990 World Sports Prototype Championship. •⁠ ⁠Raced only at Montreal and Mexico City during that year, and completing around 80 laps in total, it is quite possibly the lowest mileage and most original 962 in existence. •⁠ ⁠It is powered by a correct 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine with water-cooled cylinders and heads, using Bosch MP 1.7 ignition and fuel systems, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. •⁠ ⁠The engine produces around 700bhp with race boost set at 1.1 bar, and there is also an overtake button to increase the boost to 1.3 bar for 12 seconds to circa 750bhp. •⁠ ⁠This factory-built chassis (962-163) was constructed in July 1990, remaining accident-free throughout its brief two-race competition history, and being exceptionally well preserved ever since. It was acquired by the current owner in 2021. •⁠ ⁠The car remains in original condition with minimal wear, including untouched paintwork and factory-finished hand-painted Repsol livery. •⁠ ⁠Following decades in some of the most prestigious private collections, it underwent an extensive restoration by renowned specialist Katana Ltd between 2022 and 2023, preserving its outstanding originality while preparing it for future on-track use. •⁠ ⁠It has been exhibited at multiple prestigious events including the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the Porsche 75th anniversary celebrations, Heveningham Hall Concours, and Boxengasse Megaphonics.
