The reason behind all of it? Tariffs. The Trump Administration had placed tariffs on nearly every country - at first, but then removed most of them, but kept in place a 10% Tariff on almost every country except for China. Lumber is a bit different though. We have had Tariffs on Canadian lumber for decades and they currently sit around 14%. That is likely to change, however as the Commerce Department has announced a plan to increase Tariffs on Canadian lumber to around 35%. In this video I discuss what is happening and what the future holds.
