G'day everyone, I wanted to revisit a topic that I cover a few years ago. In fairness I didn't have a mill back then, and I have a new lathe. The topic is the subject of carbide and hss tooling in the home shop. The common advice is that HSS tooling is the go-to for smaller lathes and mills, and whilst I agree to an extent, I do tend to do the opposite and use carbide. I get asked about why, usually after I've broken an insert or two on camera, and I thought it might be best to revisit the topic.
