Sidney “Sevek” Finkel b.1939 in Lodz, Poland At age eight, German bombs destroyed his home. He spent the war years in the Piotrkow ghetto, slave labor camps in Bugaj and Czestochowa, and Buchenwald concentration camp. Of the six million Jews who were victims of this genocide known as the Holocaust, an estimated 1.5 million were children. Against all odds, some managed to survive. Project producer Laura Markowitz interviewed 19 child survivors of the Holocaust who now live in Southern Arizona. These first-hand accounts describe the brutality they witnessed and the acts of kindness that saved them.
