The anime has attained massive popularity thanks to the incredible fight animation done by Ufotable. It has become so popular that the Mugen Train movie became the highest grossing anime film ever made. But what's so great about it? Because from my perspective, Demon Slayer doesn't do anything right. Tanjiro is a boring protagonist, the breathing power system makes no sense, the character writing is horrible, the world building is non-existent, and generally speaking the series just lacks focus.
