Florian Gadsby is a ceramicist working with stoneware and porcelain in North London — here you'll find videos that show process, how pottery is thrown and finished and finally glazed and kiln fired. The videos here show the processes behind his work, such as the throwing and trimming of tableware and more sculptural pieces. For more regular posts, including daily photographs and videos, make sure to follow over on my Instagram: (www.instagram.com/floriangadsby). I restock my online shop around 3/4 times a year, with about 300-400 pieces a time, if you'd like to receive a newsletter about when these go live you can sign up to my newsletter on my website, (https://www.floriangadsby.com/newsletter). I also leave the shop page online, even though it appears as sold out, it usually sells out in a few minutes time, just to give you an idea of what's available and the price range, (https://www.floriangadsby.com/shop). If there's anything else you'd like to know, please do get in touch!

Video Description
Yes, I did say, ‘sherds’, that’s what broken bits of pottery are called found in archaeological sites. As I load bone dry pots into my electric kiln to be bisque fired to 1000ºC, I give each vessel a once over checking for damage or cracks. This is isn’t something I do for ALL the pots I make, I’m typically pretty confident when it comes to one-off pieces, jars, pots without any additions, and so on, but with mugs like this that I make in batches of 50-100, I always give them one final check as with such quantities it’s easier to miss small errors. Thankfully, clay at this stage can easily be broken apart, slaked down in water into a fine slurry, and then reconstituted into a usable clay by partly drying it out again and then kneading it up. I obviously don’t like finding these outliers but it’s also incredibly satisfying breaking them apart at this stage, it’s like snapping chocolate cold from the fridge. #satisfying #pottery #qualitycontrol #clay #ceramics #pottery #asmr
