After losing ₹11 lakh in a 1994 gas dealership scam, Sharma's life spiraled into darkness. Between 1998-2004, he facilitated illegal kidney transplants earning ₹5-7 lakh per surgery across Delhi, Rajasthan, and Haryana. His systematic killings of taxi and truck drivers spanned multiple states, with at least 21-50 confirmed murders. The modus operandi was chilling: pose as passengers, murder drivers at secluded locations, sell stolen vehicles in black markets for ₹20,000-45,000, then dispose of bodies in Hazara Canal in Kasganj where crocodiles would consume evidence. Arrested in 2004 in Gurgaon, Sharma received seven life sentences and two death penalties by Gurgaon court in 2008. Yet the criminal justice system failed repeatedly. Granted parole in January 2020, he absconded for seven months, secretly remarried, and started a property business in Delhi before re-arrest in July 2020. In June 2023, he was granted parole again despite his criminal history and previous escape—and vanished once more. The dramatic conclusion came on May 19, 2025, when Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Sharma from a Dausa, Rajasthan ashram where he'd been living under the false identity "Daya Das," posing as a priest. Crime Branch officers traced his mobile phone recharge, conducted undercover surveillance, and finally caught him after he made calls to his wife.
